Wedding Recap - Rehearsal Dinner

Published: Aug 14, 2013 Last Updated: May 2021 by Lindsay This post may contain affiliate links to products I use and enjoy. 4 Comments

Guys.

A lot happened. Mainly, there was a llama walk up at High Hampton Inn, where we got married, mere moments before our rehearsal dinner.  Is that a sentence you EVER thought I'd type?

I PROMISE we're going to get back to the food stuff oh-so-soon.  I've been cooking up a storm for you guys, so....wait for it.  We'll get back to new recipes tomorrow, fingers crossed, and the wedding deets will wane.  I've got a lot to tell you, though!

This time last week, I was sitting in my office counting down the hours until I got off - it was the last day I worked before our wedding.  Now I've been married for 4 days, and have lots of gifts and a sick husband to show for it.

Yep!  One of our wedding guests (we think this is the cause) came to our wedding sick (sweet of him, we're not mad), and now Jay and his sister have a nasty fever/cough/runny nose.  HAPPY HONEYMOON!  We aren't on a trip or anything, but I feel bad for the guy - he's pretty miz and isn't able to enjoy these few days off.

But, the wedding.  We headed to our venue, High Hampton Inn, last Thursday, and then started setting up and getting ready for the rehearsal dinner on Friday! This is us getting ready:

We did buffet-style food - fried chicken! - for the dinner, and it was GREAT.  Our friend Cara directed the rehearsal and the wedding.  She's the fiancee of Jay's bff Adam - and she is SUPER organized but nice all at the same time and did a fabulous job.

Here's me and my sister Olivia and her cute girlfriend Katie.  They were both in the wedding - I had MODELS for bridesmaids.  Ugh.

After we rehearsed, our guests started showing up for dinner.  It was awesome!  We invited everyone to the wedding AND rehearsal, so having two nights with everyone was great - better than trying to see everyone all in one night 5 seconds after getting married, me'thinks.

Because we had the everyone-there thing going, we did all of our toasts on Friday night, followed by a video that my rockstar baby sis Julianne made.  The toasts were MAYBE my favorite part of the entire weekend.  We heard stories about grandparents, funny memories of our relationship thus far, and Jay's comic friends reminded us all that he used to do sketches wearing thongs even though he looks "really awful" naked.  His friend Jon said that, not me.  This is Jon, telling everyone that my husband-to-be looks terrible sans clothes.  He just had his first baby!  He's one of Jay's closest comic friends.

The toasts were incredible, and I'm so glad we allowed extra time for them on the first night.

Oh, and, also!  We had a snack bar as a first-night favor.  The property that we stayed on didn't have anything open after 10pm, and very few snack options available during the day.  So, we figured our drunk friends might want some munchies, and raided Sam's.  Then, everyone got to grab a bag and fill it with snacks and drinks to take with them for the weekend.

It turned out GREAT, and I'm so glad we did it - it was my mom's idea!  I was worried we'd bought too much food, blah blah blah, and after the first night we had about 10 bags of chips left from a $150 trip to Sam's.  So....I was wrong.

Jay's mom got a golf-themed Groom's cake from Art Eats Bakery - they did our cake both nights, and were LOVELY to work with.  They're right around the corner from our house, and packed all the cakes for us to drive up the mountain.  YUM.

The rehearsal dinner, though, was just the beginning.  If you check out Instagram you can find the #funnyloveforever tag and see some wedding pics - our photographer ALREADY has some done!

I'm going to show them to you soon.  I'm pretty much FULLY obsessed.

Also.  Thanks for all the nice words these last few days!  Y'all are the greatest.

Congratulations! Such a great day! I still remember mine with great detail. Hubs even dipped into a honeymoon spot a couple of weeks back, spur-of-the-moment, while on our wild family Out West adventure. I still recall the wicked smile on his face as he turned into Echo Canyon in NM and knew right away that I had NO IDEA where we were. And then...there it was. Right in front of me -- my memory exploding. I literally squealed with delight. Kids loved it too. And that was after nearly 20 years.

You two lovebirds get well and enjoy the "honeymoon." It never ends!
