Wedding Deets - Music!

Published: Jul 23, 2013 Last Updated: Jul 2013 by Lindsay This post may contain affiliate links to products I use and enjoy. 4 Comments

We're working on music this week, for our wedding which is 18 days away.

We're not doing a band or a DJ.  Instead, we're having our fab bro-in-law (he just got married too!  Hey Joe!) emcee an iPod playlist that we're developing.  Joe did that at his wedding and it worked great!

The problem is, though, that Jay and I don't have..exactly....popular music taste.  He likes old rock and emo sad-kid stuff, and I like musicals and country.  Seriously.  Not the stuff weddings are made of.

Since it's OUR wedding, we're playing some of our favorite songs no matter what.  However, we REALLY want to have a decent selection of songs that are popular and dance-worthy.  We want people to dance at our wedding!

We do not want people to dance The Electric Slide or Cupid Shuffle at our wedding.

So, barring any totes awful wedding songs, what are your favorites?  What's one or two songs that you LOVE hearing at weddings, that are fun to dance to, and that most people know?

Old, new, you name it - we want a wide variety.  Just give us some ideas!  You've been really helpful so far, and I need you to get me though these last few details.

For those of you concerned, 99 Problems and Call me Maybe are already on the list, so you needn't suggest those.

I love us.

My tips: keep it uptempo as much as possible. And depending on the age range of the wedding guests don't go straight to Jay Z's 99 problem's...mix in some 70's and 80's.

Attended a few weddings this summer and here were some songs I saw people rushing to, or keeping people on the dance floor

Michael Jackson - Don't stop til you get enough
Michael jackson - Wanna be Startin something
    Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines
Icona Pop - I love it
Justin Timberlake - Sexyback (not a favorite of mine, but people still love it)
Billy Idol - Dancin with myself
Kid Rock - All summer long (older people seem to dig it...and rednecks...rednecks love it)
    Chris Brown - Forever
Paul Simon - You can call me Al
