This morning I taught yoga twice, as I do a lot of times.

I did not look like the above picture. That is just a picture of the two of us and my underarm fat that I kind of like.
Jay came to my 6:15am class, and hooooboy is that early. Once you get up you're all LOOK AT ME I'M CONQUERING THE WORLD, but actually making the move to get your ass up is...a lot, sometimes.
So anyway, there we were, at the end of class, and we were doing a supine twist where everyone's head was turned to the left, and Jay was to my left, and then he turned his bald head towards me and just smiled.
It was approximately 2 seconds of a connection with another human being.
It's easy to miss those moments, isn't it? Jay and I will go days without really connecting and not even realize it. We talk, and touch, and play, and laugh, but sometimes even those great things feel perfunctory in the middle of all the craziness of this life. There's work and stress and money and plans with friends and travel and more work to be done, all day every day. We aren't unique in this, either.
The problem with this, of course, is that we CRAVE connection with other humans. On a very basic level, I believe that we are all searching for positive connections with others, and the other nonsense like life and finances get in the way of that about 90% of the time.
The great thing about the example from this morning is that connection doesn't have to be huge. Huge connections are great, but do you allllways have time to have a 4 hour introspective conversation with someone you love where you REALLY connect to them? No. I don't, and I talk to people for a living, so I'm assuming you don't either.
I think that if we wait for the big moments then we miss the little ones that are there for taking every second of every day. It is not a hard thing to turn your head and smile at someone, whether it's your husband, best friend, or a stranger. But we forget, and then we feel empty, and then wahhhhhhh life is hard.
Find small ways to connect with other humans today. Make it simple, not another thing to add to your neverending list of tasks, and I promise that it's SO worth it.
