    Holidays

    Thankful.

November 22, 2012 by Lindsay Leave a Comment

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you have wonderful plans.  Armed with 5 dishes, we're about to head over to my family's house for The Day.

The Day involves drinking during the day.

The Day involves taking pictures of various groups of our families, with people shouting instructions like this:

Mama, no!  My head's not in it!

    Zoom in....NOT BY WALKING!

Don't stand too close to me.  If these are good I want to crop you out for Facebook.

What I'm trying to say is, I love Thanksgiving.

Have a wonderful day, friends.  I'd love to know what your plans are for this wonderful weekend!  Tomorrow it's back to yoga and counseling and real life, so I'm especially thankful to have today with the people I love the most.

I'm thankful for YOU, too.  You knew that, right?

    Love,

    Lindsay

    November 21, 2012 by Lindsay 3 Comments

    Thanksgiving is tomorrow!

    Finally.

How annoyed are you of me telling you how to cook?

Hopefully not too much - this is the last day I'll be dictating what you eat until the next time I feel compelled to share with you my thoughts on what I think you should eat.

    November 19, 2012 by Lindsay 1 Comment

It's Monday of a 2 day work week.

    So....HAPPY THURSDAY!

I'm a wreck.  After weeks of 15 hour days, I'm a HAIR excited for a short week with only a few things that I have to do.

It's going to feel like being on a cruise.  In my house.  I love my house.

    Spicy Sausage Cheddar Balls

    November 16, 2012 by Lindsay 4 Comments

    Ahh....Bisquick.

It's, like, totally the perfect invention for non-bakers like me.  YES, I'm completely aware that I could make my own using ingredients already found in my own house, but the BOXED STUFF IS SO MUCH BETTER.

    Sorry, it's true.

You've had these before, right?  They're sausage.  They're biscuit.  They're cheesy.

Also, they take c. zero intelligence to make, come out perfectly every time, and are a huge crowd pleaser.

    So, we shall make them.

Roasted Sweet Potato Couscous with Arugula, Blue Cheese, and Sage

    November 15, 2012 by Lindsay 2 Comments

    What's with me recently?

My "cooking" involves throwing a bunch of crap into some kind of carb and dousing it with butter and calling it dinner.

    Like I did here.

Ok, I think I know what's with me.  THAT SH*T'S FREAKING GOOD.

    So, I keep doing it.

    Arugula Herb Salad

    October 31, 2012 by Lindsay 1 Comment

    Welp, this is easy.

We're going to talk about all the lovely perfect amazing wonderful tailgating food tomorrow, but I really want to show you this idea for a throw-together salad, ESPECIALLY if you're like me and bought enough salad greens and herbs for 17 people to eat three times at the farmer's market last week.

    No?  Just me?

    Whatever, buttheads.

    Garlic Blue Cheese Pull-Apart Bread

    October 25, 2012 by Lindsay 4 Comments

    Yep.

    I caved to Pinterest.

Not really, actually, but I HAD been seeing people post and post and post about pull-apart breads, both sweet and savory.  I was a little intrigued, but I don't really do anything with bread. Even ready-made stuff...I don't know why.  I'll think of why sometime.

But, when I asked on Facebook last week what new tailgating recipes I should test, my friend Sarah suggested a pull-apart bread!

    I was in.

Well, I was in mainly because I made something to dip bread in, and I wanted a SPECIAL bread for it.  I'll tell you about the dip tomorrow, but be aware that it contains lots of hot sauce and looks like this.

    Zing.

    Spiced Mashed Sweet Potatoes

    October 9, 2012 by Lindsay 5 Comments

    I have a thing.

    I don't like sweet potatoes.

    I don't know why.

I think most of it is that I just don't eat them very often - I eat a few bites at Christmas and Thanksgiving like a good American, but I never cook them, never buy them, and DEFINITELY never order sweet potato fries because "omg they're like, the BEST EVER here, and DEFINITELY get the blue cheese crumbles because it just MAKES them!!!!!"

Um, yeah. It's still a sweet potato. Stop being fake-trendy.

    I don't dislike them.  I just don't eat them.

    Gruyere Barley with Pecan Crust {weekend potluck}

    August 17, 2012 by Lindsay 5 Comments

DID YOU JUST READ THAT?  Seriously.  WTF.

It's so dang good, guys.  You know that we're all about heating whole grains, good food, etc, but we're also all about cheese.

    Lots of cheese.

So, this fit both of those bills.  It's not crazy healthy, but there are some REALLY fabulous flavors going on, and you get the benefit of eating a whole grain in the barley!

You could make this with farro too - or even a wild rice blend.  Yum!

Let's get right to it.  I can't wait.

    Party Snack - Boiled Peanuts

    December 22, 2011 by Lindsay 3 Comments

You know how everyone, like, loves boiled peanuts and talks about them all the time and says you can only get them by the roadside and craves them and eats 8,373 of them when they're around?

It's because they're great.  Really great.

You can make your own!  It's SO easy and raw peanuts are CHEAP, so why not impress some people at your upcoming parties with these babies?

    Christmas Dinner - Broccoli Casserole

December 21, 2011 by Lindsay Leave a Comment

I think that oooey goooey cheesy casseroles are GREAT on major holidays, even if they aren't the healthiest thing at the table!

This is a great kinda-cooking-kinda-not dish because you use some pre-made soup BUT you still make your own cheese sauce - the flavors go great together and everyone will love this!

    Gift Idea - Cheesecake!

    December 20, 2011 by Lindsay 5 Comments

    Happy Christmas Week!

I'm sure you've already done your shopping and wrapping and planning for this weekend, but....just in case you haven't....I think this is a sweet gift idea!

This cheesecake recipe came from my friend Ginger, and I make it multiple times per year!  I made it for Jay's birthday at Thanksgiving this year and it was a hit!

To hold it's shape, cheesecake should be made in a springform pan - you can buy them anywhere for not much money, so don't freak out.  Why not buy a pan, make a cheesecake, and give the cake and the pan as a gift with the recipe attached?

    I say go for it.

    Christmas Cheer - Braised Collards

    December 14, 2011 by Lindsay 5 Comments

Christmas is almost here!  What does your family eat for Christmas dinner?  We mainly have our Thanksgiving dinner with a few additions and a smoked turkey instead of a regular turkey.  I bought a smoker a few years ago and it's just amazing.  Really.

When I was little my grandmother always made greens and homemade relish, and I LOVED them.  I'm pretty sure I loved the relish more than the actual greens, but that's OK!

Here's how I make collard greens - tons of flavor and nutrition!  You can substitute any heavy greens you like, but buy a TON - they cook way down!
