Restaurant Review - Mac's Speedshop

We super duper like this place.

Mac's Speedshop - the non-naked-waitress's answer to Hooters.

Or something.

It's a biker bar, but one that people go to after church with their children to drink sweet tea.  Kind of like how people take whole soccer teams to Hooters, which has baffled me for years.

See the similarity?  Maybe not.

Regardless, we love this place.  It's a regional chain with good food, great wings, and lots of smoked yummy options in the BBQ family.

The best thing about this fun joint is that they have a huge patio that allows dogs - clearly a huge plus for us this time of year when the weather is so nice!  The servers are all nice enough to bring the doggies water, too.  Ours don't care for the water and instead wait for chicken bones, but that's OK with us.

Another great thing about Mac's is that there are always lovely drink specials.  Super cheap domestics, fun specials on well drinks or, on this particular day, a Mystery Bucket for $10.  5 mixed beers for $10 people.  All specialty, and when we looked at the menu, all were $4 - $8 so....an insane deal.

Mystery beer

In terms of food, we've tried LOTS of things.  Our absolute favorite thing on the menu is the smoked grilled wings.  Jay and I share them almost every time we go, and for good reason.  They're GREAT!  On this particular day that I took photos I got the Little Big BBQ sandwich which I've been wanting to try for some time but...it was INCREDIBLY greasy.  I'm in no way opposed to grease, but by the time my food arrived the grease had soaked through the bun, which was hugely unappetizing, and made the meat such that the homemade BBQ sauces couldn't really be tasted - my tongue was THAT coated.  Ew.  So....whomp whomp on the pork?  Maybe it was just that particular day.

BBQ with fries

Another fun thing about Mac's menu is their sides, which they call Sidecars.  They have a great assortment!  Their fries are good, their slaw isn't mayonnaise-y, and their greens are lovely.  My sister likes the mac and cheese too, and we've tried several other items and liked them!  My favorite is this:  The Chopper salad as a side.  It's basically a wedge salad chopped up, which I LOVE because entire wedges of lettuce are annoying to cut.  I have serious first world problems, folks.

Half chopper

I will say that sooooometimes the service at this joint is below par.  The food is always correct and the girls are always friendly, but there is sometimes some confusion about table assignments.  One time we had a girl introduce herself and go to find out what drink specials were, then not return for 12 minutes.  We never saw her again.  We flagged down another server that we have had before (I don't know your name!  You're cute and wear lots of pink sparkly things and one time a bow that looked like Hello Kitty?  Not in a bad way.  I was obsessed with it and could never pull it off in a gazillion years.), and she took GREAT care of us.

Side salad

Overall, though, this is a great place to hang out and drink or eat - if you have great company the service doesn't need to be super speedy, right?  That's our mantra, and we'll keep going back and trying new things.  Check out the menu here, and try 'em out soon.  We heart Mac's!
