Last weekend, while visiting my fabulous friend Jessica in Southport, NC, I had the distinct pleasure of eating and drinking to excess at Fishy Fishy Cafe right on the beach. It was AMAZING. I love spending time with Jess because she's one of my best friends and thinks she's Asian like me, but ALSO because she's a total foodie and we order tons of fun food everywhere we go and share everything and enjoy our lives.
The atmosphere at Fishy Fishy is casual and very beachy - I loved the lime green and purple paint and the fact that over half the seating in the restaurant is in a covered outdoor bar area. We didn't sit outside because it was nearly a hundred degrees that day, but I definitely will WHEN I go back!
To start, Jess ordered a mango daquiri and I ordered a drink special that involved Southern Comfort, sprite, and sweet and sour mix - it had a clever name that involved lemonade, and it was delicious and beachy and sunny and not too sweet - very important in mixed drinks.
For our meal we shared the Shrimp & Lump Crab Louie salad and the Blackened Catfish Sandwich. Both were lovely - the salad had great fresh crunchy greens and the Louie dressing was spicy and creamy all at once. I would have liked more crab in the salad, but seafood places usually go heavy on the shrimp in dishes like this since it's cheaper. The sandwich was spicy and the fish was tender and delicious.
We went to Fishy Fishy around 3pm, and even at that late hour there were several tables with large groups of families and friends enjoying the great food and view of the ocean. Anytime a restaurant is crowded at that time of day you can be sure that the food will be a winner!

You can see more pictures of our visit below. Please note the "lighter fare" section of the menu - there are two items, and both of them were fried. Even in smaller portions I wouldn't recommend chicken tenders and fried seafood for someone counting calories!
Try this place. You'll love it.
