We're back from the city!
And we came back to a crazy week, firestorm at work (not the word I wanted to use), house showings out the wazoo but no offers, Jay gone for work all week, and just life, which isn't always a bad thing I suppose. ...
We are home, we are somewhat recovered, the laundry is still out of control.
But, another great New York trip is in the books, and I can't wait for the next one. Last year I was lucky to get to the city twice for work, and this year I'm super duper hoping to do the same thing. We had a great time, as we always do. I go for the final event of the a cappella tournament I work with, a sold out show at Beacon Theater that is magical, inspiring, and hugely entertaining.
This year was super DUPER special because my youngest sister Julianne lives in Brooklyn now, so we got to spend tons of special time with her. I used my "work" time to reconnect with my coworkers who live all over the world, and in between seeing friends, doing the show, and sitting in cabs in traffic we managed to see some great stuff, eat some fabulous things, and generally enjoy feeling the city all around us. I adore big cities, and am so glad I get to spend lots of time in New York.

...the fall that feels like summer, but whatever.
We are mainly recovered from our NYC trip last weekend, save for a gross cold that I blame on airplanes and not sleeping. It was the BEST TRIP EVER, although I say that almost every time I come back from New York. This particular trip was for a brand new tournament that the company I work for just launched, but my sister also just moved to Brooklyn so my mom came with me. We had 2 days of hanging out and sightseeing, one looooong day of show stuff and a super duper fun afterparty, then a trip home that can only be described as delirious, we were so tired. ...
Last weekend we went to Pawley's Island for Labor Day, and we are still talking about what a freaking blast we had.
We stayed in a perfect little condo with our friends Rebecca and Ed and their daughter Sienna, so Beck had a friend. Friends at age 21 months are tricky, they tend to whack at you and take your toys. We're working on it. ...
We've been back from Belize for about a month, and Jay and I are still just giddy about what was a really great trip. Here are some of his musings from our vacation - enjoy!
Some people know how their local airport functions at 5am in the morning, and other people like to follow the letter of the TSA Law to a tee. I am the former and Lindsay is the latter. So, we arrived at the airport and cleared security 2 hours before our flight boarded for Belize. Lindsay and I sat in the food court eating Chic-fil-A biscuits and questioning the people who even dare to eat at the adjacent hot dog stand. We fueled up on fried chicken and coffee and headed to our gate. When I hear the phrase “international traveler” I picture an educated, well dressed, adventurer that is out to expand their horizons. This is not the case at Greenville-Spartanburg airport at 5am. That morning there were a lot of average folks and a shockingly large number of creepy, nerdy white dudes that gave off a real “school shooter” vibe. One guy was wearing a t-shirt that had a wolf howling over a mountain range, with a train running around the base of the mountain. Needless to say, his phone was firmly attached to his belt. Oh, but it didn’t stop there. Once on board the plane, we heard a second grade teacher say, “I always forget that there is more than one airport in Tennessee. You’d think I could remember that, but I just fly out of Knoxville, so.” She is educating young people.

We've been home from vacation for a week, and honestly I'm still not over it.
We spent 4 nights and 5 days at Black Rock Lodge on the west side of Belize, and it was one of the most unique and wonderful trips of our lives. Reader beware, there was no AC, so if you're not into a thousand percent humidity in the middle of the jungle with no reprieve this particular vacation might not be for you. ...
because we are back, because i'm having major computer issues, because it was just so damn pretty. i'm going to write all about it, but in the meantime.......
....a month later, because that's how things work around here these days.
But! We went to New York like every year, had a killer time, slept way too little, came back vaguely miserable due to exhaustion, and can't wait to do it again next year. This New York trip will always be the most nostalgic for me because coming home from NYC two years ago was when I found out I was pregnant with Beck. I'll always remember feeling like garbage the whole weekend but kind of not caring because I love the city so much. We got home after 3 hours of sleep that Sunday, peed on a stick, and cried because Jay hated his job and mine was just meh and also three hours of sleep. Clearly we have slept since then and got better jobs and wouldn't trade Beck's timing for anything, but that memory now comes flooding back every time I'm in the city in April. ...
Guys we did the nuttiest thing this weekend. We went away with 3 other families. 3 other couples, 3 other babies. And us. It was a lot. And it was so much fun.

We went to Nashville! And now I'm going to tell you about it. How's that for a topic sentence?
That's Beck's response to most of my writing. And to Nashville, where that picture was taken.
On July 4th weekend Jay/Beck/I went to Nashville with my sister Julianne, who is doing a summer internship in Memphis. Nashville is kind of the only cool place at a midway point and we missed her, so we went for it! Jay had been to Nashville years ago and I've been approximately 9,837 times for work, but my work trips have been REALLY to work, stay in big hotels and not leave, that kind of thing. So, we found ourselves never having actually done much of anything in the city, so it was great to experience it all together.
...
So, we went to New York! Like we do every year for the last show of the music competition (ICCA) I produce.
This year was one of the stranger trips we've had. Beck was with us, which was strange but great, of course, and we had a GREAT time on Friday. But then on Saturday (the day I work on the show and Jay is usually on his own) or dog got super sick and we honestly didn't know if he was going to make it, so we spent most of the day worrying about him and changing our flights so we could get home earlier just in case. And....that was kind of it!
But let's talk about Friday, because that was a very wonderful day.
...
Guys we're going to NYC on Friday!
I found out I was pregnant the day after we got back from this trip last year, and this year Beck is coming with us! We're super excited and also terribly unsure of ourselves because duh, first time parents and a 4 month old in a big city. We aren't scared of cities, which is a good thing. ...
....and final part, thank g for anyone that hates this kind of posts.
SO, after we ate all day Saturday and wandered all day Sunday, we had a little more time before I came home, BUT Jay did have to work a little bit. We also had Jay's coworker with us starting on Monday at lunchtime, which was great because we don't really like each other all that much.
Not really.
Monday early for breakfast (Before Jay had to start working) we went to Snooze, which EVERYONE had recommended to us. Strangers on planes, the internet, friends who had been to visit AND who lived in Denver - not one person that we asked didn't mention this restaurant. So, to Snooze we went!
...
So, after our first epic day eating our way through downtown, we decided on Sunday to get out of the city. Jay wanted to see the mountains we could see from our hotel room, and the Rockies are only 30 or so miles away, so while we were at brunch we made the decision to stay away from downtown for the first part of the day.
...
I just realized I didn't tell you about Denver yet.
It was the best ever and we loved it and want to move but obviously it's really far away and we have no clue what we'd do there.
You know how it goes.
It's true, though! We had a blast and even though Jay was there for work, I had a great time doing our fav city method: eat, walk, google, instagram, repeat. Seriously. Might be the lamest ever, but it works for us and that's all that matters.
...
This place you guys, really.
It's insane!
Follow along on our trip, if you aren't already, and get READY to hear all about it when we get back! I can't freaking wait.
So. Onto the second part of our NYC trip!
After our epic trek on Friday morning/afternoon, we met our friend Dan who is from Greenville but lives in Hoboken. We met him in the city for "a" (three) drink(s), then headed on the bus to Hoboken to see his wife and two gorgeous girls. We LOVE these guys, and try to see them every year when we're in NYC and a few more times when they come to Greenville. We want to be just like them when we grow up even though they're kind of the same age.

To hear about our favorite bits of the cruise, the parts that didn't involve gluttonous behaviors or cray cray table convos.
Port days!
We figured out that we basically used the boat as a cheaper flight+hotel option, which was fine by me because I liked the cruise part of the trip better than Jay. BUT, we both like seeing new places and doing touristy things, so we agreed that the days off the boat in the Bahamas were definitely our fav parts.
...
So, we went on a cruise. A Carnival cruise! Carnival Fantasy from Charleston, to be exact. We left on Thanksgiving Day and got back the Tuesday after, which means we had 6 days and 5 nights of just being with the two of us.
That part was probably my favorite part of the entire trip.
The boat itself was great, the food was fine, the docked days were GREAT (but that's a whole separate set of pictures), but really really being away from your house and INTERNET and CELL SERVICE is my new "do this to save your marriage" counseling tip, for realsies.
To clarify, our marriage doesn't need saving. But who couldn't use a little boost every once in awhile?
