Can we go ahead and agree that Mondays are totes wonderful when it's one week and two days until Christmas?
Made only SLIGHTLY WORSE by realizing Christmas gifts are in no way done?
No? Just me?
We have our first gift "due" today! Do you guys have due dates on gifts? Like....seeing this person then, gift for them that day, all that jazz? Our first gift is due today and it's in our house with price tags totally not wrapped. It's the best gift we'll give all year, too! Seriously. Each year we adopt a little kid who might not have Christmas - a program put on by our yoga studio, and we buy Christmas! Toys, clothes, TINY ADORABLE UNDIES...the works. Last year we did a girl, this year a boy, and it's the MOST fun shopping for a tiny person who we think will be so excited that Santa will come to them this year! So, while we love shopping for our family and friends, our best gift is going out today.
Because we spend some extra cash on a tiny stranger each year, we've started doing smaller homemade gifts for our parents, and telling them that their gift is knowing that we spent our money on someone else who might need gifts a little more. They love it, and of course totally get it, but it's still really nice to give them SOMETHING, even if not something expensive. It's really the thought and effort, right? I'm a firm believer that gifts don't have to be costly to be amazing.
I love making blackening seasoning and putting it in cute jars as gifts! Totally delicious and gourmet, and people totally love it.
Cookies are great, too, but what about cupcakes in a jar if you want something that your recipient can enjoy right away? Mine turned out ugly but whatever. THE THOUGHT, PEOPLE.
If you've got some time, canning your own marinara sauce is fun and lovely. I gift this alone, or for a larger gift with some fancy pasta, olive oil, and maybe parm or wine! Cute.
In the same Italian vein, I love buying dishes and filling them with food! So, if you wanted to give someone a baking dish, why not fill it with baked ziti, freeze it, and then they get a dish and a meal as a gift? Nom.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER HOMEMADE GIFTS? Tell me, I need ideas. I also need 584 hours to wrap everything I've bought for our cute little man (his name is Edwin! He's 4!), so can someone give me the gift of time?
Thanks.
