Not a real day but...look!

My sidekick.  I took these last week while I was photographing....something...(oh! the red rice!), and Beck was sweetly hanging out in her high chair watching.  I only photograph food at certain times of day for the natural light, and when I can't manage that during naps I try to make it work with Beck playing near me on the floor or in her high chair.  Recently I've had great success letting her practice spoon skills while I work, it takes a ton of energy and she all but forgets that she's being held against her will and not really eating.

Spoon feeding does not equal eating.  Parent of the year! Notice also that there isn't a spoon in any of these photos, because it was on the floor.

I think no matter what parenting/work schedule you have set up there is a constant feeling of anxiety, guilt, and that the juggling may all fall apart at any minute.  And, everyone is envious of someone else's system for reasons that generally make no sense: mainly, we're jealous of an invisible method in which we are fulfilled by work, make plenty of money, are well-rested, and feel as though we are at the same time giving our children exactly what they need in terms of love, play, and developmental opportunities while maintaining healthy adult friendships, keeping our romantic endeavors alive, and keeping the ironing pile manageable.

Ha.

The good thing about cooking sometimes for work is that there's a reward for Beck at the end of it too, so I have that going for me.  The bad thing is that it makes precious little money and I'm always behind.  No perfect system!

Enjoy your Tuesday, your lack of balance, and some extra carbs.
