- My mom's birthday was on Tuesday, and it was a self-appointed Day of No Blogging, so she didn't get a I LOVE YOU PLEASE NEVER LEAVE ME post, which she more than deserves. I did text her in the morning to tell her I was thinking about her, but it was in the middle of her texting me something about my sister's stepdaughter (good stuff, anything step is bad but not with this girl) so it was a little lost in the mix because she has an iPhone and I am a strong Droidian, so, you know, I tried. #runonsentencesforlife
- So now we are doing this. My mom. She is young (early 50's, kill me now, had me when she was 23), vibrant, liberal, whip-smart, and takes care of my baby for free 2 days a week and without argument does a better job than I do with her. See Beck up there? That's the flappy thing she does when she sees my mom. It's the best.
- In excellent caretaker fashion, she always tells me what Beck is doing. For example, on Monday of this week I asked her to tell me when Beck woke up from her 2nd nap so that I could plan my work exit accordingly. "This baby is woke!" was the text I got. The woman is 1. informative, 2. funny, 3. with.the.times.aka.woke.
- My mom is also the most supportive of all the supportive people, especially as it relates to me being a mom. When I mentioned that I might be able to work part time after I had Beck she threw herself into the mix so that we didn't have to do daycare (nothing wrong with that at all, though), and when I stopped being able to pump as much (body locked up, worst thing ever) she was all "you people were eating chalk at this point, it's fine." And, the other night, I went to get Beck but stayed for some wine because why not invite myself over, you know?, and I texted my mom after we got home to thank her for the extra time, and she said "That's the bonus, seeing my baby with her baby." And I cried on my couch a little bit, because I know exactly what she meant.
- Finally, my mother refers to baby leg warmers as Harlequin Leg Warmers, which is just hilarious. Happy Birthday, Mama! I love you so, so much.
