It's almost the weekend!
How's your fall going?
Our is fine. We realized that buying a house under ancient oak trees with only one rake and precious little personal motivation means that we will just swim in leaves until they rot and return to the Earth.
It's very grown up, we know.
Also, we haven't turned on the heat or air in over a month. Our utility bill is so dang low, it's wonderful.
But, it was 37 degrees last night and we slept in sweatshirts. We're in a battle to see who will cave first. I bet it'll be Jay. He's very delicate.
Anyway, surely you know that, even if you aren't a "fan," one of the best parts of fall is FOOTBALL and making delicious food for viewing parties, tailgating, or just because it's the weekend.
Why not, right?
Here are a few of my absolute favorite foods for this type of event. They are easy, delicious, and there's lots of hot sauce involved. Promise! Click the links or the pictures for access to the original recipes - I'm famished just thinking about all this!
Bacon Blue Cheese Meatballs
Perfect, easy, and just a TEENY bit different - what's not to like? Another perk is that these can be made well in advance and reheated in the sauce on the stovetop right before serving. Deeelish!
Buffalo Chicken Dip
Another winner, and another easy make-ahead that you bake right before serving. The stringy cheese and buttery sauce with the tangy chicken? Kill me now. I want to bathe in this crap.
Pull-Apart Bread
So annoyingly trendy, but SERIOUSLY delicious. This version has blue cheese in it, but you could mix it up with any cheese and herbs you like, or just use plain garlic butter. Whatever you do, you CAN'T mess it up. It's so easy!
Pimiento Cheese
My version is a little bit spicy, and I add an extra kick of hot sauce for people who really like it - it makes the tangy cheese just...pop. This is great with crackers, chips, veggies, or.....on top of SLIDERS? What? Yes.
Layered Bean Dip with Chips and Salsa
Yep. Gotta have some chips and dip, right? This bean dip is REALLY perfect, and homemade salsa is such an easy touch to add a little bit extra to an eatin' party. Make both of these soon, and soak in the praise. They're both insanely easy, too!
So there it is, kids, some things that make me drool just THINKING about them and all the fun that's to be had this time of year.
This stuff isn't healthy, and that's sort of the beauty of it. Some of us can't eat like this alllll the time, though, so up next I'll offer some healthy suggestions. You can mix and match, or pick just one set of foods for your next gathering. Either way, you can't go wrong.
I'm still waiting on more ideas for new tailgating food to cook this weekend: let's hear it!
