I love love love giving gifts that I made myself, and the thing that I'm pretty good at making is food.
Not crafts. That's sister number 3.
Basically, I'm doing the exact same things I've done for the past few years with 1 exception: this year I canned my favorite appetizer and am giving it away.
I love giving a few small things that go together as gifts, and I do it a lot. Nice wine, a set of glasses, chocolate.
Blackening seasoning, some grilling recipes, grill tongs.
Canned marinara, fancy pasta, olive oil.
Actually, one of my favorite housewarming gifts was a kit like that - a pretty bowl, some kitchen towels, a box of spaghetti, a spaghetti spoon. I obviously ate the spag and use all the other stuff ALL the time, even 3 (holy shit) years later!
I almost didn't can the roasted tomatoes because I was just...ugh, can't, too busy...but now I'm so glad I did because I think they offer the perfect start to a Williams-Sonoma type of gift. I'm doing wine, crackers, fancy cheese, and olives with some of the jars, and some of them will be paired with fresh bread and cheese if it's a gift for someone that I know entertains a lot. The tomatoes CAN'T BE BOUGHT, which makes them extra special.
I used the exact same method for canning that I did a few years ago with the tomato sauce, and used smaller jars since the stuff is so rich. Canning always makes me nervous like....did it work? Is everyone going to get sick and die? BUT a lot of people on the interwebz tell me that if the lid pops after canning then it worked and no one will die so...they better be right!
Calm my fears about canning and also give me some ideas for new homemade gifts. Please and thank you.
8 days until Christmas!
